The National Resistance Council for the Salvation of Afghanistan expresses its condolences to the bereaved families of the victims of 17 August 1998 on the 25th anniversary of the bloody massacre of a number of innocent citizens of Mazar-e-Sharif by the extremist and terrorist group of the Taliban, and honors the memories of those oppressed and innocent martyrs.
In 1998, the Taliban group dominated parts of the north, including Mazar-e-Sharif. By taking control of the city of Mazar-e-Sharif, the Taliban attacked the civilian population of the city and massacred civilians, including women and children, for several days, and committed the worst and most cruel crimes against humanity, especially the Hazara and Shia people . To the extent that one of the high-ranking officials of the Taliban at that time considered the Hazaras as non-Muslims and issued a fatwa to massacre them, which was a concrete example of ethnic cleansing, genocide and sectarian annihilation in our country.
In one of its reports, Human Rights Watch wrote: “Hundreds of Hazara men and boys were executed during house-to-house searches.” There are other reports that thousands of people were killed in the city.
After twenty-five years today, the Taliban have once again repeated their past crimes against humanity and committed similar crimes in all parts of the country, especially the Northern provinces, Kabul, areas of the southern provinces and the central provinces, and killed innocent citizens in front of their eyes. Their families are barraged.
The National Resistance Council for the Salvation of Afghanistan believes that the Taliban group, which has committed such crimes in the past and is still dominating Afghanistan today, does not hesitate to commit any crimes against humanity, repression, torture, murder, and political, ethnic, and religious elimination. , are subject to more punishment and sanctions rather than having secret interactions with them under different titles and giving courage to other terrorist groups.
