In the Name of Allah
Over three years of the Taliban’s authoritarian, monopolistic, and incompetent rule have plunged Afghanistan into an appalling state of affairs. This includes rampant violations of human and Islamic rights, especially the fundamental rights of women, along with violence, widespread oppression, unemployment, and poverty. The Taliban’s collaboration with terrorist groups, its illegitimacy, international isolation, and its practices of gender, ethnic, and religious discrimination have further exacerbated the crisis. Violations of international laws and conventions, disregard for Afghanistan’s political, cultural, and social diversity, targeted killings, forced displacements, and the fueling of ethnic, religious, and linguistic divisions are just a fraction of the heavy toll their regime has imposed on the Afghan people and the nation as a whole. Beyond the immense human suffering, this situation has become a profound source of historical and national disgrace.
This dire reality imposes a historic responsibility on Afghanistan’s leaders, politicians, scholars, intellectuals, women, youth, and every individual citizen. Now, more than ever, it is imperative to rise to the occasion and take decisive action to end this intolerable chaos. Over the past three years, numerous political, military, and civil efforts have been made by political parties, civil society organizations, and women’s rights activists. While these efforts have achieved tangible results and significant outcomes, they now demand greater unity and coordination.
To this end, a coalition of political and civil organizations, councils, and institutions—listed below this declaration—have united under a single, broad political umbrella: the National Assembly for the Salvation of Afghanistan. Officially launching today 6 December 2024), this assembly marks a historic and transformative moment in strengthening and unifying the people’s struggle for Afghanistan’s salvation. Its ultimate goal is to achieve independence, justice, freedom, and the establishment of a political system rooted in the will and vote of the Afghan people.
The National Assembly for the Salvation of Afghanistan calls on the Taliban regime to heed the nation’s plight, prioritize national interests, and seize this historic opportunity to resolve the crisis. We urge the Taliban to engage in peace and meaningful negotiations with this assembly, thereby fulfilling their responsibilities to Afghanistan and its people.
To the honorable and free people of Afghanistan: We call upon you to actively support this coalition and contribute to changing our nation’s current trajectory. Together, we can overcome the misery imposed upon us.
Furthermore, we call upon neighboring countries, the international community and the United Nations to play a constructive role in reducing the suffering of the Afghan people and helping to establish a system based on their collective will. Through continuous and meaningful engagement with the National Assembly for the Salvation of Afghanistan, we can work towards resolving Afghanistan’s crisis and ensuring a better future for its citizens.
