The 26th of Dalwa marks one of the most significant moments in Afghanistan’s contemporary history; the day when the defeat and withdrawal of the Soviet Union’s forces from Afghan soil was realized. This event became a symbol of the resilience, sacrifice, and love of freedom of the country’s people in the face of foreign occupation and domination. We congratulate and honor the patient and resilient nation of Afghanistan on this historic occasion.

The occupation and invasion by Soviet forces at that time took place within the framework of an openly interventionist action and with the support of the puppet government of the period, an action that was contrary to all accepted national and international principles and that had far-reaching consequences for the country’s political, social, and security life. As a result, national decision-making independence was weakened and the country’s governing structures suffered severe damage.

In response to this situation, various segments of the Afghan population turned to resistance, enduring immense hardships and paying heavy human and material costs. This widespread resistance, after years of unequal struggle, ultimately forced the opposing side to accept defeat and led to the defeat and expulsion of the invading Soviet forces from Afghanistan, an event that was officially realized on the 26th of Dalwa, 1367 (Solar Hijri calendar).

Undoubtedly, this period of the country’s history was accompanied by profound losses. Millions of war victims, widespread displacement, destruction of infrastructure, and lasting psychological and social wounds are among the consequences borne by the people of Afghanistan. At the same time, this historical experience demonstrated that reliance on external powers and disregard for the will and rights of the people lead to nothing but failure and collapse.

By commemorating this day, the Supreme Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan emphasizes that independence, national sovereignty, and human dignity are values that can endure only through reliance on the will of the people and respect for citizens’ rights. Past experiences must serve as a guiding light for the future to prevent the repetition of costly mistakes.

Today, we mark this occasion at a time when Afghanistan once again faces not only serious political, security, and social challenges, but is effectively under the control of a group dependent on and shaped by external conspiracies. The spread of extremism, terrorist threats, and the restriction of fundamental citizens’ rights have created deep concerns at both national and international levels, and the people of Afghanistan are obliged to save their country from this imposed situation.

The National Resistance Council, committed to the principles of democracy, social justice, the rule of law, and the provision of equal rights for all citizens, stresses the necessity of peaceful, responsible, and inclusive efforts to achieve lasting peace and genuine stability in the country. We believe that Afghanistan’s future can only be built through dialogue, national participation, and respect for its social and political diversity.

In conclusion, while honoring the memory of all victims of the wars and crises of the past decades, we express hope that this historic day will inspire solidarity, awareness, and collective commitment to building a free, just, and stable Afghanistan.
