The High Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan strongly condemns the detention of a number of women and girls, as well as the coercive actions taken against the peaceful protests of the citizens of Herat. The Council considers these actions a clear violation of human dignity, the fundamental rights of citizens, and the basic freedoms of the people of Afghanistan.
The recent developments in Herat once again demonstrate the continuation of policies and practices that have led to the restriction of the fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens, particularly women, and have further heightened concerns regarding the state of human rights and civil liberties in Afghanistan.
The High Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan emphasizes that the rights to security, freedom, human dignity, social participation, and the peaceful expression of demands are unquestionable and inalienable rights of all Afghan citizens. The use of coercive measures against civil demands and the imposition of increasing restrictions on women are not only inconsistent with human and Islamic values, but also pose serious challenges to the achievement of stability, national cohesion, and a future founded upon justice and broad public participation.
The High Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan expresses its solidarity with women, youth, and all freedom-loving citizens of the country, and stresses the necessity of respecting the fundamental rights of the Afghan people and ensuring equal and meaningful participation of all citizens in social, cultural, and political spheres.
We call upon the United Nations, international human rights organizations, countries of the region, and the international community to pay close attention to the current situation in Afghanistan and the ongoing violations of the fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens, particularly women. We urge them to take responsible and effective action and to play a more active role in supporting the legitimate rights of the Afghan people.
The High Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan once again emphasizes that lasting peace, political stability, and a secure and prosperous future for Afghanistan can only be achieved through respect for the will of the people, the establishment of justice, the protection of citizens’ fundamental rights, and the inclusive participation of all ethnic groups and segments of society.
