Today, 28 Asad, recalls one of the brightest pages of Afghanistan’s modern history; a day when our free and proud nation, with firm determination and great resolve, reclaimed its political independence from the clutches of colonialism and opened a new chapter of freedom and national sovereignty in the country’s history.

The Supreme Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan, in commemorating this historic day, believes that true independence can only be realized under the rule of law, social justice, inclusive political participation, and the protection of human rights. Independence is not merely liberation from foreign domination; its continuation depends on having a legitimate, popular, and accountable system that represents the will and dignity of the citizens.

Today, unfortunately, Afghanistan faces great challenges such as the absence of a legitimate government, the violation of fundamental freedoms, the deprivation of women and girls of their human rights, and the domination of an authoritarian group. This situation has not only damaged our independence and national dignity but has also placed the future of the country’s young generations under the threat of darkness and regression.

The Supreme Council of National Resistance, while honoring the memory of the martyrs and pioneers of the nation’s freedom, calls upon all political forces, civil institutions, migrants, and the free citizens of Afghanistan to, in the light of the historic message of 28 Asad, unite their voices and efforts for the realization of true independence, the establishment of just peace, social justice, and the reconstruction of a free and prosperous Afghanistan.
