The Supreme Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan, with deep regret and concern, considers the recent decision of the Russian Federation to recognize the Taliban as a hasty and shortsighted move and strongly condemns it. This decision not only represents a blatant violation of the fundamental rights of the Afghan people—particularly the rights of women, children, and ethnic and religious minorities—but also disregards the noble aspirations of the Afghan people for peace, justice, and democracy. Moreover, it carries serious security implications for our country, the region, and the world.
The Supreme Council believes that political legitimacy and international recognition only have meaning when they arise from the will of the people, not through rushed and shortsighted engagements. Granting legitimacy to a group that has seized power through force and violence, and continues to violate human rights and suppress the basic freedoms of the Afghan people, stands in clear contradiction to the principles of international law and the commitments of the global community to support the people of Afghanistan.
We call on the international community and all responsible governments to respect the will and aspirations of the Afghan people, and to refrain from any action that strengthens authoritarian and human rights-violating groups in Afghanistan.
The Supreme Council stresses that the global community must not remain indifferent to the suffering and legitimate demands of the honorable Afghan nation and should avoid any move that perpetuates tyranny and repression.
The Supreme Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan assures the noble people of Afghanistan that it stands firmly beside them and will continue its legitimate struggle for the realization of human rights, social justice, freedom, and the rule of law in Afghanistan.
