Fortunately, the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, after sufficient and documented investigations, has issued a request for the arrest of the Taliban leader and the head of this group’s Supreme Court on charges of gender-based violence and crimes against humanity.
The Supreme Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan considers this decision by the ICC a step toward achieving justice and a source of hope for millions of suffering citizens, especially oppressed women in Afghanistan. The council welcomes this decision and congratulates all the people of Afghanistan, particularly the oppressed women and girls of the country.
Without a doubt, not only the senior leaders of the Taliban but also all ideological members and those who have been involved for years in the killing and slaughter of the Afghan people in the ranks of this group, deserve to be arrested and tried fairly. The Taliban group is one of the most fearsome terrorist and criminal networks in the world and a part of international terrorism.
This group, not only in the past but even now, continues to commit various crimes against humanity. Afghanistan has now become a massive prison for all its citizens, where thousands of young people, women, security forces, and officials of the former government are being tortured and killed in prisons.
The request for the arrest of senior Taliban leaders is not only a source of joy and hope for the people of Afghanistan to achieve justice but also a clear sign of the crimes and oppression engraved on the foreheads of the Taliban. More importantly, it is a source of shame for the international community and the countries that are engaging positively with this group instead of supporting the people of Afghanistan and are attempting to whitewash its image.
The Supreme Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan, while welcoming this request, sees it as a symbol of justice in the unjust political dynamics of the current world. However, it considers it insufficient and calls on the international community to support the people of Afghanistan in achieving a system based on public will and freeing Afghanistan from the grip of international terrorism.
We also call for the Taliban group to be recognized as a terrorist organization globally, for the investigation of other crimes committed by this group, and for all perpetrators of crimes against the people of Afghanistan—who are now active in various parts of the Taliban group—to be held accountable and brought to trial.
