The High Council of the National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan considers the convening of the regional Tehran meeting on the situation in Afghanistan, within the broader framework of regional attention to the country’s multidimensional crisis, a commendable step toward keeping the issue of Afghanistan alive on the region’s political and diplomatic agenda. The Council appreciates the efforts of the host government, the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as the participation of representatives of the attending countries.
The High Council of the National Resistance emphasizes that the continuity and effectiveness of such meetings can truly serve the real interests of the Afghan people only when they are accompanied by active, coordinated, and responsible support from the international community, and are organized toward changing the current situation, ending the political deadlock, and laying the groundwork for lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan. Undoubtedly, short-term approaches lacking a clear vision will not be sufficient to address the depth of the current crisis.
The Council once again stresses that regional and international meetings must be held in a purposeful manner to ensure the supreme interests of the Afghan people, support just peace, achieve sustainable stability, and facilitate the formation of a legitimate, inclusive, and accountable political system. It calls upon all regional and international actors to play their roles in this process responsibly, in a coordinated manner, and based on accepted international principles.
