Dear compatriots, esteemed brothers and sisters,

The Supreme Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan extends its warmest congratulations and best wishes to all Muslims around the world—especially to you, our noble and patient fellow countrymen—on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, this symbol of sacrifice and devotion before the One Creator, and a reminder of the soul’s liberation from selfishness and corruption.

We earnestly pray to Almighty God that, through His mercy and grace, He uproots extremism, hatred, terror, and fear from our land, and blesses us with a just and lasting peace under the shade of tolerance, coexistence, and mutual respect. May we no longer witness the spilling of blood, the orphaning of children, and the displacement and humiliation of any fellow Afghan in distant or neighboring countries.

Dear brothers and sisters,

It has now been four years since the Taliban seized control over the fate of our country. During this period, we have witnessed immense suffering: the deprivation of girls and women from the right to work and participate in society, the closure of the doors of schools and universities, and ultimately, the degradation of human dignity—from the divine position of being God’s representative on earth to that of servitude and subjugation.

On this sacred occasion of Eid al-Adha, the Supreme Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan, as a broad political umbrella, wishes to highlight the following points:

– The Supreme Council appreciates the fact that the international community—especially neighboring countries, as well as regional and extra-regional powers—has thus far refrained from recognizing the Taliban’s illegitimate rule over Afghanistan. However, it views with deep regret the growing economic and political engagement with the Taliban, which serves only to strengthen their grip on power while ignoring the widespread violation of the Afghan people’s rights.

– Diplomatic and security officials from near and far have repeatedly expressed concern about the rising security threats emanating from Afghan soil—threats that result from the Taliban’s harboring, training, and financial support of regional and international terrorist groups. Nevertheless, these same countries have adopted a policy of engagement with the Taliban in practice. The Supreme Council of National Resistance has consistently voiced its concern regarding this policy of engagement by regional countries and global powers, and once again warns of the disastrous consequences of such an approach.

– The Supreme Council calls upon countries currently hosting Afghan refugees—particularly the Islamic Republic of Iran and Pakistan, which have provided refuge to their fellow co-religionists for nearly five decades—to reconsider their policy of forcibly repatriating Afghan migrants. Given the dire situation in Afghanistan and the absence of a responsible, committed, and legitimate government both domestically and internationally, such repatriation policies are premature and inhumane.

– The Supreme Council of National Resistance calls on the international community and global institutions—particularly those countries directly involved in Afghan affairs—to take serious and concrete steps to initiate an inclusive dialogue aimed at the formation of a broad-based government. Such a government must be committed to upholding equal citizenship rights and abiding by international treaties and conventions.

– The experience of several decades of conflict and change in Afghanistan clearly shows that the Afghan people will not accept the rule of any mono-ethnic or ideologically driven group that imposes exclusive power and enforces systematic and blatant discrimination. Therefore, national interests demand that all ethnic groups and political movements work together toward a just and inclusive political structure grounded in the rule of law and democratic elections.

The Supreme Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan, while offering prayers for the pure souls of the martyrs who gave their lives for freedom, dignity, and the territorial integrity of the nation, earnestly asks Almighty God to grant our people a just and lasting peace as a blessed gift on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.
