The Supreme Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan considers the passing of the late Dr. Abdul Ghafoor Rawaan Farhadi, a distinguished diplomat, eminent scholar, and one of the enduring figures of Afghanistan’s culture, literature, and diplomacy, to be a great loss for the country and for the scientific and cultural community, and expresses its deepest condolences and sympathy.
The late Dr. Rawaan Farhadi was one of Afghanistan’s most prominent contemporary intellectuals and thinkers, who devoted his fruitful and blessed life to the advancement of knowledge, culture, language, and the civilization of this land. Alongside holding high-ranking diplomatic positions, he was appointed in 1993 by the martyred Professor Burhanuddin Rabbani as Afghanistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and for 13 years he represented Afghanistan and its people in this important role.
Likewise, through years of teaching, research, and scholarly work in the fields of language, literature, history, mysticism, and Islamic civilization, he made valuable contributions to the scientific and cultural heritage of Afghanistan and the Persian-speaking world. His academic efforts in introducing the thoughts of Hazrat Mawlana Jalaluddin Muhammad Balkhi and other great figures of Islamic culture and literature earned him a distinguished and respected position among scholars in international academic and university circles.
The late scholar, with his profound knowledge, dignified character, exemplary humility, and sincere commitment to national interests, was regarded as one of Afghanistan’s valuable intellectual and cultural assets, and his scholarly works and lasting services will continue to inspire future generations.
The Supreme Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan extends its heartfelt condolences over this painful loss to the honorable people of Afghanistan, the country’s scientific and cultural community, the diplomatic family, his late students, friends, and admirers, and in particular to Mr. Tariq Farhadi and all members of the respected Farhadi family. It prays to Almighty God to grant the deceased vast mercy, forgiveness, elevation of ranks, and Paradise, and to grant his esteemed survivors beautiful patience and great reward.
May his soul rest in peace, his memory remain eternal, and his scientific, cultural, and national legacy remain forever alive and illuminated.
