The Supreme Council of National Resistance commemorates the 31st anniversary of the martyrdom of the Martyr of National Unity, Ustad Abdul Ali Mazari, and honors the memory of that pioneer of justice. Ustad Mazari was a personality who, with firm faith, enlightened thought, and unwavering determination, stood in defense of human dignity, the rights of marginalized ethnic groups, and the realization of social justice, and ultimately sacrificed his life on this very path.
Martyr Ustad Abdul Ali Mazari was not only a political leader, but also the powerful voice of the oppressed and a symbol of resistance against discrimination, despotism, and the monopolization of power. He believed that Afghanistan would achieve stability and progress only when all its ethnic groups and citizens could participate in the country’s political destiny without discrimination. The idea of national unity, which he defended with honesty and courage, continues today to inspire new generations to build a just society.
At a time when Afghanistan was engulfed in wars, conflicts, and widespread injustice, Martyr Mazari spoke loudly about justice, political participation, peaceful coexistence, and the rights of all human beings—especially the deprived women of Afghanistan. He regarded dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect among ethnic and religious groups as the only path to saving the country. It was this broad and inclusive vision that led people to recognize him as the Martyr of National Unity.
Thirty-one years have passed since the martyrdom of Ustad Mazari, yet his name, thoughts, and path remain alive in the hearts of millions. Today, more than ever, our society needs the same spirit for which he struggled—a spirit based on justice, brotherhood, solidarity, and respect for the rights of all citizens. Keeping the memory and ideals of Martyr Mazari alive cannot be achieved merely through ceremonies and words; rather, it requires continuing his path toward building a just, free, and united society.
Today Afghanistan, unfortunately once again under the domination of ignorance, tyranny, discrimination, monopolization of power, and repression by the Taliban group, needs the path and example of figures such as Martyr Mazari more than ever. For this reason, the Supreme Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan remains determined—drawing inspiration from the thoughts of Martyr Mazari and other great martyrs of Afghanistan—to continue the struggle against the prevailing darkness and despotism.
On the 31st anniversary of the martyrdom of the Martyr of National Unity, while paying tribute to his lofty status and to all martyrs of the path of independence, freedom, and justice—including the Martyr of Peace Professor Burhanuddin Rabbani, the National Hero Ahmad Shah Massoud, the late Marshal Mohammad Qasim Fahim, Martyr General Abdul Raziq Achakzai, Martyr Haji Abdul Qadir, Martyr Sayed Mustafa Kazemi, Martyr Matalib Beg, Martyr Ustad Abdul Saboor Farid, Martyr Ahmad Khan Samangani, and all the renowned and unknown martyrs of jihad, freedom, and resistance of the people of Afghanistan—we emphasize that the ideals of the martyrs will never be extinguished. The history of Afghanistan always remembers those personalities who stood for the dignity of their people in the most difficult circumstances, and Martyr Mazari is undoubtedly among the most prominent of them.
May his soul rest in peace, and may his path be followed by many and continue to inspire the generations of today and tomorrow.
